EU PROJECT "TRANSPORT AND ENVIRONMENT" TO BE STARTED
Transport and Environment, a Phare multi-country project will cover all of the Phare Partner countries but will give a greater degree of concentration to the 10 Associated Countries and to the 5 which have started acceptation negotiations. The project will by its Multi-Country nature, however, seek to develop a framework in which there is a sharing of experiences between all the countries in the region and the development of a cohesive approach to addressing environmental issues resulting from the transport sector.
The overall objective of this study is to integrate environmental issues into transport policy in all the countries concerned and to develop a regional approach to reducing environmental pollution resulting from the growth of the transport sector. Consideration should, however, also be given to the wider context of the study and the links between environment and industrial policy, employment, competitiveness and other economic activities.
The study will review national policies with respect to transport and the environment, assess their compliance with EU directives and measure their impact to date. It will then proceed to develop to broad strategy to incorporate environmental legislation and environmental impact assessment into transport policies in the Phare Countries and translate this into a broad Action Plan for implementation either in the context of the Multi-Country Transport programme or in the national or Cross-Border programmes.
The project will commence in September 1998 as a joint venture between DHV-Consultants BV from the Netherlands and LT-Consultants Ltd. from Finland.
QUALITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATES AWARDED TO LT CONSULTANTS

In LT Consultants’ Quality Assurance and Environmental Management System, environmental aspects have been integrated with the quality processes, thus creating one system that will enable LT to meet the expectations of our clients.
In Finland, LT Consultants is the first consulting company to receive the ISO 14001 environmental management certificate.

ONGOING RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS FINANCED BY THE EU
The EUNET project (Socio-economic and Spatial Impacts of Transport) started in 1996. The client is the Commission of the European Communities, Directorate General for Transport. Duration of the project is 6/1996-6/1999. The main objective of the EUNET Project is to develop a comprehensive innovative methodology for the assessment of the impacts of transport initiatives (i.e. infrastructure and technology investments, regulatory and fiscal policies).
The STREAMS project (Strategic Transport Research for European Member States) started in 1996. The client is the Commission of the European Communities, Directorate General for Transport. Duration of the project is 6/1996-6/1998. The objective of the STREAMS project is to develop a methodology to analyse how external factors influence levels of mobility in Europe, and how the European transport networks can cope with the resulting transport needs. The methodology will be implemented and tested in an operational model to present base scenarios on European transport developments.
The ASSEMBLING-project (Methodology for Establishing General Databases on Transport Flows, Infrastructure Networks and Sociodemographic data) started in the spring of 1997. The client is the Commission of the European Communities, Directorate General for Transport). The project will last for three years. The main objective of the project is the establishment of a network of transport infrastructure monitoring centres. Each monitoring centre or observatory will be devoted to relevant cases of transport infrastructure decision-making and/or impacts.
The QUATTRO project (Quality Approach in Tendering Urban Public Transport Operations) started in March 1996 and will last for one year. The client is the Commission of the European Communities, Directorate General for Transport. STUDY OF THE IMAGE OF CONSULTING FIRMS
A client interview survey made by Taloustutkimus Ltd in 1996 showed that LT Consultants Ltd is very successful in its field. According to the survey our company is the leading consulting company in Finland with regard to quality and the level of the planning methods.
The Finnish Association of Consulting Firms (SKOL) and the company Psyko BLC have during 1997 made a client feedback survey of 32 consulting companies. The survey was based on 1200 client inquiries. About 340 clients took part in the survey of companies in the same field as LT Consultants (municipal engineering). The results of this survey were, that compared to the survey made by Taloustutkimus in 1996, our company has managed to improve its weaknesses and we managed to do better than the average on every point, except one. Our result was the best at many points.
